Working Together across the Ocean

Students from Landstuhl and Terrebonne- Canada take on challenges together — 23.02.2026

Since the beginning of the school year, class „8a“ of Sickingen-Gymnasium Landstuhl and class „LING-25“ of École des Trois-Saisons in Terrebonne (near Montreal)/ Canada have been in contact and have proved and shown how to work together internationally, and very successfully.
Starting out with sending each other letters of introduction, we quickly moved on to common challenges with the first one being the „Halloween drawing“ challenge, followed by the „cookie challenge“ shortly before Christmas.
The „Halloween drawing“ challenge consisted of the Landstuhl students drawing one half of their pictures and then sending them to Canada, for the Trois Saisons students to complete them. The results are amazing, and the students could get their first insights into international cooperation.
The cookie challenge took place just before Christmas. With Sickingen-Gymnasium lacking a large kitchen, the students had to do the baking at home, and the challenge began by admiring each others‘ results, before eventually eating them!
On the Canadian side, students chose recipes and baked cookies with their teammates at home as well. They brought samples to share on a December festive day and rated the best recipes. The winners received an invitation to a surprise lunch to celebrate their dedication.
Students from group ‘8A’ send to their Canadian penpalsmind maps about ‘Life in Germany’, real maps, brochures, and other authentic materials to help them organize a stand about Germany during their ‘International Week’ in March. Our friends overseas are very thankful.
The latest challenge is the story challenges with the Terrebonne students writing the first two paragraphs of personal narratives, and the Landstuhl students completing them. As this is still work in progress, we are very curious about the upcoming results!
We -the students and teachers on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean- are very glad and grateful for this wonderful opportunity to share our ideas and work together internationally, and we are very much looking forward to any other letter exchanges and challenges coming up for the reminder of the academic year.
